Starfall.com opened in September of 2002 as a free public service to motivate children to read with phonics. Our systematic phonics approach, in conjunction with phonemic awareness practice is perfect for preschool, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, special education, homeschool, and English language development (ELD, ELL, ESL). Here are 7 of our most-loved math websites for kids in grades K-8:
1. Cool Math 4 Kids – This site is for the older kids. Many ideas, games, and resources for pre-algebra and beyond.
2. Multiplication.com – Fun games, strategies, and techniques for learning multiplication.
3. Fun Brain – I love this site! Lots of ideas for math games and activities. A section dedicated to reading (with online books) and gross motor activity ideas.
4. Math Is Fun – Money, data, measurement, geometry, and algebra. This site covers it all. Printable worksheets, activity ideas, games and more.
5. Math Playground – This is a great website full of videos, apps, word problems, worksheets, and flashcards. Everything from basic addition and subtraction, all the way up to more advanced algebra and geometry is covered here.
6. IXL – This site has activities for kids in pre-k through 8th grade. My favorite feature is that as you work through the activities, there is a sidebar that keeps track of correct and incorrect answers. Although this could be a distraction for some kids, it’s a great motivator for others.
The downside of this site, is that after accessing it for a certain amount of time, a paid membership is required to go any further. That’s an expense that doesn’t fit into our budget, but maybe it’s something that works for you.
7. Thinking Blocks – This site focuses on word problems, which can be difficult for many children. By using virtual manipulatives, this site allows kids who are visual learners to better understand the strategies necessary to solve word problems.
